[Let's Talk] What is a BB cream ?

Hello darlings ~

We have always heard about BB creams, how it claims to improve the skin conditions and how it will oxidise to match  your skin tone. So, what exactly is a BB cream ?

BB cream, also known as Blemish Balm or Blemish Base cream, was originally formulated in Germany by dermatologist Dr. Christine Schrammek in the 1950s. The cream was initially used to protect the skin after laser procedures and surgery, providing light coverage.

BB cream, which has been named "the secret of Korean actresses" and has been heavily endorsed by Korean celebrities, which gained large exposure in Asian markets.

BB creams come in different formules mainly perceived as anti-inflammatory and having a soothing effect. Dues to its "all-in-one" properties - moisturizer, primer, foundation, sunblock, even out complexion like a tinted moisturiser, covering minor imperfections and redness like a concealer, hydrate your skin like your day cream, brighten and perk up a dull complexion. Some will even protect the face with SPF and PA, while some also promise healing, soothing and anti-ageing properties.

The cream have become a hit in Asia, especially in South Korea. The cream is so popular that even the men in South Korea are using.

How ?

Treat BB cream like your skincare and find one that is suitable for your skin type.
It is very important to know your skin type.  Do you have oily skin? Dry skin? Sensitive skin? Problem skin? Combination skin, and what kind of combination skin?
Do you have ageing concerns or do you just want to have a healthy glow?

As most BB cream is often perfumed, do check if you like the smell and make sure the cream blends into your skin well. Always try before you buy and see how it feels on your skin for a few hours or the day, in the same way as you would try a foundation on your skin before buying.

The magic of BB cream means you can actually wear it alone with or without a foundation and you would normally get a light, natural finish coverage to give you a heathy glow and cover up any uneven skin tone.

Cons

As BB cream does not cover like a foundation, so if you are suffering from spots, you might need to go over the problem areas with a concealer. There are also limited shades which BB creams offer, generally light or medium. So watch out for the pinky undertones which do not suit darker skins.
